ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides cordial, responsive and accurate customer service.
Operates various District systems under the direction and guidance of licensed operators and performs routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment, water and wastewater system components and otherwise assists the District to operate and maintain its systems.
Monitors water treatment & distribution, wastewater and collection system operations.
Installs, repairs, and maintains underground water and sewer mains and other utility work.
Performs manual tasks as assigned.
Operates hand and power tools.
Responds to emergency problems as requested by supervisor.
Prepares simple work orders and forms.
Mows grass and trims trees.
Fills and grades site work.
Completes required maintenance records, logs, and other paperwork as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Utility Worker - A High School Diploma or a GED is required.
No prior experience or training required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Possession of a Class C Motor Vehicle Operators License issued by the Maryland MVA (or equivalent) or the ability to obtain such a license within thirty (30) days after employment to position.
Within sixty (60) days of hire must possess the applicable temporary certificate(s) (C2, T4, T5, W5A) as required by the division within the Sanitary District to which assigned, as issued by the Maryland Department of the Environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Regularly required to operate a vehicle; stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; smell and hear.
Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in both inside and outside weather conditions.
Due to the nature of this position, outside work activities must routinely be performed under extremely adverse weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with higher levels of noise in some areas.
Periodically exposed to toxic and caustic chemicals, raw sewage and the risk of disease or infection.
May be required to enter confined spaces.
GENERAL INFORMATION KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read a limited number of two-and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers written in English.
Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
Ability to perform these operations using standard units of weight, volume, and distance measurement.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
